Exactly what Iqra stores, sends, and never touches.

Iqra is made by Iqra Team. You can reach us at support@iqra-app.store.

The short version

  • You can use Iqra without an account. Nothing leaves your phone if you don't sign in.
  • If you sign in, your reading progress and settings sync so a new phone can pick up where the old one left off.
  • Iqra never sees which apps you block. iOS does not give that information to apps.
  • Your location never reaches Iqra's servers.
  • There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and no third party we sell or share your data with.

If you use Iqra without an account

Everything stays on your phone. Nothing is uploaded. There is no account for anyone to look up.

Your progress, settings, blocked-app selection, and location all live in a file in Iqra's own storage on the device. Deleting the app deletes all of it, with no copy anywhere else.

If you sign in

You can sign in with Apple or with Google. Signing in creates an account so your mornings survive losing, replacing or resetting your phone.

What is stored on Iqra's server

Iqra's backend is hosted on Supabase, in the United States.

About you

DataWhy
An account IDA random identifier created by the server. It is how your rows are found.
Your nameOnly to greet you on the Today screen. You type it, or Apple or Google supply it once when you first sign in. It can be left blank.
Your email addressIqra never asks for this and never displays it. Apple and Google include it in the sign-in token they issue, and it is stored on your account record so you can sign in again.

If you sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, Apple gives a private relay address instead of your real one. Iqra works exactly the same either way.

About your reading

DataWhy
How far through the Qur'an you have readSo a new phone resumes in the right place.
Which days you completed a readingYour streak and your journey screen.
How many complete readings you have finished, and when the current one startedYour khatm count.
Your daily goal, reflection pause, Arabic text size, theme, and prayer-time calculation methodSo your settings follow you.
Whether strict mode is on, when its seal ends, and how many emergency passes you have left this monthSo the commitment cannot be escaped by reinstalling.

That is the complete list. There is nothing else in the account record.

What is never uploaded, even when signed in

  • Which apps you block. iOS hands Iqra sealed tokens it cannot read, store or transmit. Iqra knows only how many apps you picked, and even that number stays on the device.
  • Your location and your city name. These stay on your phone.
  • Your prayer times. Calculated on your phone from your location.
  • Where you are mid-reading. Only completed sessions are recorded.

Location

If you let Iqra use your location, it asks once, at roughly city-level accuracy, precise enough for dawn, which shifts by seconds across a city.

Iqra uses it to work out when Fajr begins where you are, entirely on your phone. No background tracking, no location history.

Your coordinates are never sent to Iqra's servers.

To turn your coordinates into a readable city name for the settings screen, Iqra asks Apple's geocoding service, so those coordinates go to Apple, under Apple's privacy policy, not Iqra's server. Iqra keeps only the city name, on your own device.

You can decline location access. Iqra will use its default dawn time instead.

The Qur'an text

The Arabic and the English translation are built into the app. They are never fetched over the network, and no server is ever told which verse you are reading.

Sources and licences are listed in the app under Settings → About the text & credits.

Notifications

Iqra can send you two local reminders a day: one at dawn, one in the evening. These are created and scheduled on your phone. There is no push server, and Iqra holds no notification token.

The text contains only your daily ayah count and your streak. It never contains your name or your location.

What Iqra does not do

  • No tracking. Iqra does not track you across apps or websites, and never asks for permission to.
  • No advertising identifier. Iqra does not read the IDFA or any device identifier.
  • No analytics. There is no analytics, telemetry or crash-reporting service in the app at all.
  • No selling or sharing. Your data is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else's purposes.
  • No profiling and no automated decisions about you.

Who else touches your data

WhoWhat for
SupabaseHosts the database and handles sign-in. Acts on Iqra's instructions only.
AppleSign in with Apple, and the geocoding lookup described above.
GoogleOnly if you choose to sign in with Google.

There are no other third parties.

How long data is kept

Your account record is kept while your account exists. Delete your account and it is removed from Iqra's database.

Data on your phone lasts until you sign out, reset the device from Settings, or delete the app, each of which erases the local copy.

Your choices and rights

  • Use Iqra without an account. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Edit or clear your name at any time in Settings → Name.
  • Sign out. This clears the copy on your phone. Your account keeps your progress.
  • Delete your account in Settings → Delete account. This removes your account record from Iqra's database and cannot be undone.
  • Get a copy of your data. Email us and we will send you everything held under your account.
  • Turn off location or notifications at any time in iOS Settings.

If you are in the UK, EU or a similar jurisdiction, you also have the right to correct or restrict processing of your data, and to complain to your data protection authority. Email us and we will help.

Iqra processes your data to provide the app you asked for, and, where the law requires a stated basis, on the basis of that contract with you and your consent for location.

Children

Iqra is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the app will say so before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
